Fantasy Update

If you are an avid reader of this blog...hahah...you may remember a previous post in which I mentioned that I would be playing Fantasy baseball with a group of girls.  We have now finished the first 8 weeks of our "season" so I thought it was time for an update :)
It was a very rough start for me.  My team lost 9-1 the first week which left me in last place.  It was a very frustrating week for me....if you know me well, you know that I am VERY competitive.  I do not like to lose at ANYTHING (such as dominoes with the family, 1 v 1 soccer vs 5th grade boys, and slugbug with the husband).  This now includes fantasy baseball as well.  Aaron would just sit and laugh at me as I ranted about how bad my team was doing.  The "star" of my team was supposed to be Albert Pujols, who many baseball fanatics consider the best player in baseball right now.  Let me just tell you that he is having an awful season!  He normally hits tons of homeruns and I think his current total for the season is about 8.  Enough about that.
After the first week however, my team started doing ALOT better which made me a much happier manager.  I am currently in first place in our league, only by a few games though.  I am playing the second place team this week so it should be interesting :)

Think Happy Thoughts

This crazy weather has been freaking me out tonight.  Especially after seeing all the devestation that happened in Joplin.  Griffin and I camped out in a closet just to be on the safe side.  He looked at me like I was crazy, but cuddled up on my tummy anyways...partly due to lack of room to lay anywhere else and partly to let me know he was protecting me :) Love that little guy.
I hope everyone else up here is safe too!
While in the closet, I was browsing the computer and stumbled upon a pretty cool article.  An NFL player is choosing to spend his exteded offseason subbing in the high school he went to.  I wish more of the players and owners would be more like him and less greedy.  If you are interested in reading it, click here.  It restored my faith in at least some of the people involved in that whole situation.

Random Thoughts

As mentioned in my post earlier,  I want Hines and Kym to win DWTS.  Let me just say, THEY ROCKED IT!  I loved their freestyle dance!  He seems like the nicest person and I just love her!
I thought Kirstie Alley was great too!  She is so incredibly brave to be dancing and shaking it in that body suit...I hope that I have the same energy as her when I am 60 something.  I loved her dance too.
Although The Bachelorette came on right after DWTS, I changed the channel quickly because I DO NOT want to get sucked into that stupid show again.  A few seasons ago I vowed to never watch it again.  I got hooked last season unfortunately and watched Brad.  After the way things have ended up for them, I am renewing my vow to not watch that crap anymore.  I am sure that Aaron will be happy with that decision :)
A friend brought to my attention another thought today at school.  Why does our society focus on the negative instead of the positive?  It happens all the time, in all situations.  Shouldn't we celebrate those positives rather than harp on the negative?  I am also vowing to work harder on that.
And finally, don't you just love the smell of a yummy dessert baking in the oven?  I know I do.  Here is what I just pulled out :)

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake......mmmmmmmmm good!

Countdown

7 more days of school until the summer :)
This thought makes me so happy.  It is really the only thing getting me through the day at this point.  Well, that and the Dancing With The Stars season finale tonight.
Here is who I HOPE wins!
Go Hines and Kym!

Blog Love

I call this "our" blog...as in mine and Aaron's blog.  Let's be honest though.  This is my blog.  I write it and I'm not sure how often Aaron looks at it, if ever.
I felt like he needed a little blog love though, so this one is all about him :)
He has been working so hard these past couple of weeks.  He is still working at MetLife 8-5 Monday through Friday.  Every 3rd day, he has paramedic class in Richardson from 6-10 after work and every 6th day, he volunteers at the Oak Point Fire Dept.  Needless to say, he is BUSY.  I am so incredibly proud of him and all that he is doing.
On top of all that, he is still so generous and selfless.  A girl at work had a family member pass away and she asked him if she could switch shifts with him.  This would have him working 11:30-8:30.  He of course said yes, which I was not happy about since it was for one of the two days that we would actually be able to spend the evening together.  He told me he said he would do it because if he were in that situation, he would want someone to switch with him.  I of course agreed and smiled knowing that I have a husband who cares for others.  The next day, our other night to hang out, he spent an extra hour at work trying to jump a co-workers car for her....honestly, how can I get mad at him for doing things that I would want people to do for me?
As busy as he is, he still manages to muster up the energy to help out around the apartment.  While I do most of the cooking, he does the majority of the dishes and helps fold laundry :)  I know what you're thinking....what a great husband!  I agree!  My favorite thing he does though is taking Griffin out to potty on Saturday mornings.  He lets me sleep that little bit extra and takes care of our dog.  Boy did I luck out :)

High School

This weekend I got to participate in a couple of high school activities with my cousins.
My cousin Alyssa had her graduation tea party on Saturday morning.  It was so fun to see my family, some of whom had come in from out of town and also to see my other cousin who is newly engaged!  We had a great time visiting and discussing her wedding details :)
After the party was over, I headed over to Irving to help Aaron's cousin Katie get ready for her senior prom.  I had such a great time hanging out with the Miller family and felt so honored that Katie wanted me around to help her.  I did her hair for her and I was really nervous.  I have never done anyone elses hair for them!  I have curled my hair plenty of times...but it's very different doing it to someone else's head.  She was very sweet and patient with me so it all went smoothly.  She looked absolutely gorgeous when she was all ready in her dress!  Here are a few pics :)

 Me and Katie...Love you!

After I was done there, I headed back to my cousins house in the Lake Highlands area to go out to dinner with my family.  We had a great time, as usual, with that goofy bunch.  We traded autotext stories with each other and let me tell you, they made my abs hurt.
It was a WONDERFUL day overall and again made me so thankful for my family as well as the family that I married into.

Old Downtown Carrollton

I love this place.  It is packed with little boutiques and antique shops filled with treasures.  Yesterday my school district had a celebration out there and all the shops were offering a 20% discount to employees.  Obviously, I had to take advantage of this great offer!  Here are a few pics of the "treasures" I came away with :)
A gorgeous wire cross with glass beads.

 Scissors with peacock feather handle!!!
An old vintage hat!  I have been dying to have one since seeing the Royal Wedding :)  I can't wait to wear it to something!  They had another one that I might just have to go back and get too!
I had such a good time doing my favorite activity...shopping!  I also enjoyed some great company.  Aaron's Grandma Margie also works in my district and she was there so we wandered around together and got to visit for a few hours.
It was a great end to a lonnnnnnnng week, but on the bright side, only 13 more school days with the kiddos!

Mothers Day Weekend

This past weekend was a TON of fun.  It was very busy and full of different events.
Friday morning, my parents flew in to visit.  It is always so nice to see them and visit with them.  I took my mom to get a pedicure that evening to start off the weekend right.  I had field day at school that morning so it felt good to have my feet pampered.  After that, we had dinner with Aaron's parents and uncle Paul and Mawmaw at Snuffers....YUM!  We had such a great time!  I love that our families get along so well :)
On a side note, our wedding album came in on Friday....LOVE IT!  It could not be more perfect.  If you are in need of a photographer for anything, check out who we used.  They were absolutely amazing.  Two Pair Photography
Saturday, the boys went to play golf early.  My mom and I got to sleep in a little bit before starting a busy day.  We ran a few errands so I could finish up Mother's Day gifts for our grandma's then we hit the mall to do a little shopping....my favorite!  My mom found a really cute jacket at Dillard's so I got it as her mothers day gift.  What a good daughter I am :)  After that we met the boys back at our apt. and relaxed for a bit while watching all the different sporting events that were on t.v.
That evening, my uncle Robert had his retirement party at Brookhaven Country Club.  It was in the same room we had our rehearsal dinner in :)  It was really fun to be back there and the bartender even remembered us from our wedding/rehearsal...good thing or not?  I think good because we were memorable!  Anyways, it was so nice to see some family and celebrate my uncles wonderful career with AT&T.  Since we were all there and dressed up, I decided to take some pics....
Mom, Grandma Zamora and I

Me and my very handsome husband
My grandma kept commenting on how short she was, but I was wearing about 5 inch heels which I love especially since Aaron is so much taller than I am :)
When the party was over we all came home and went to bed.  At about 1:00 am, my phone started ringing and I answered but really don't remember what I said.  All I know is that it was my brother calling and telling me to come open the gate to our apt complex because he was here to surprise my parents.  Let me just tell you that I am not a happy person when I am woken up from a good sleep.  Aaron and I went down to open the gate and let him in.  It was quite a surprise...and even bigger when I realized he had Deuce, his dog, with him.  We did not get much sleep that night because Griffin wanted to go out and play with him and whinned all night.... I'm not complaining though.  It was SO good to see him and I know my parents were glad to see him too.
The next morning we all went to breakfast to celebrate Mother's Day and my dads birthday.  That's right...every once in a while my mom and dad have to share that day.  We went to Cafe Brazil and had a delicious breakfast together.  Here are my amazing parents who I love more than anything (mom wearing her new jacket).
After breakfast, we parted ways because Aaron and I had tickets to the Rangers/Yankees game (part of our Christmas present).  It was a fun game to watch but it was incredibly HOT!  I ended up with a bit of a sunburn but I am happy to report that it is almost a nice tan now :)
We ended our amazing weekend with dinner at Mawmaw's house with Aaron's family.  It was one of the best Mother's Day weekends that I can remember in a while.  I love that my family all got to be together on such a special day and that I was able to be with Aaron's family also.  BLESSED!

Double Date

Yesterday Aaron and I got to spend some time with two of our favorite people :)
I went to a painting class and did some shopping with Stormey while Aaron played golf with Gerad.  After we were all done, we met at BJ's for dinner.
Stormey and I met at the Painting with a Twist in Grapevine.  It was my first time to this one...and I had mixed feelings.  The ladies there were very nice and we had a good time, but the painting was a little more difficult than my previous ones and the instructor moved very fast which left us feeling like we had to hurry to keep up.  Not as fun and relaxing as before.  However, we still managed to have a good time visiting and came out with some cute paintings!  Here is a pic of my finished art :)
Aaron said that this one would look nice in my classroom too :) aka...he doesn't want it in our house.  That is fine with me.  I hung up the one I did of the peacock in my class and my students were AMAZED!  They couldn't believe I had painted it...which, now that I'm thingking about it, insults me just a little that they were so surprised....haha.
After the painting, we headed over to Nordstroms...our favorite store.  We both got a few cute things and managed to not break the bank.  Here are the adorable earrings that I got

At dinner, we all had a good time talking and eating.  It was a wonderful day with our friends that I hope we can make happen more often.

Today Aaron is at the fire station and I made what I think are the BEST cookies I have ever made.  They are Low Fat Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies.  Trust me, they don't taste low-fat.  I have eaten about 5 already which I think cancels out the low-fat...oops.  If you would like to try....click here.  I promise, they won't dissappoint.
